I am Chinese and I come from Hong Kong.

I have been living and working in Birmingham since 1991.

I first had lessons in the Alexander Technique to help me with longstanding back and neck pain. My very tense physical condition was interfering with many areas of my life and nothing seemed to help. With the Alexander work, I experienced a new lease of life. Now in my early 50s, I feel healthier, happier and more at ease with myself than I ever was as a younger person.

My Professional Alexander Training

I have graduated from two different Alexander Teacher Training programmes. I am a member to two different professional Alexander organisations:

STAT The Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique
and
ITM Alexander Technique The Interactive Teaching Method of the Alexander Technique.

From 1989 to 1992, I studied under the late Paul Collins on a STAT certified course. Paul Collins was a professional runner as well as a concert violinist. Paul taught me the value of an open inquiring mind both in learning the Alexander Technique and in living in general.

From 1993 to 1998, I studied with Don Weed D.C. in the Interactive Teaching Method (ITM Alexander Technique). Don's unique approach to the Alexander Technique has instilled in me a curiosity and sensitivity to human nature and human movement. I also learned the fun, joy and skills of teaching in groups.

I have been a teacher since 1992. I teach private lessons, I teach in groups. I run workshops and give presentations. I have done workshops for different groups of people:

  • professional drama students
  • physiotherapists
  • doctors
  • psychotherapists
  • university administrators
  • singers and singing teachers
  • musicians and music teachers
  • dancers and dance teachers

I have also worked with many people in other walks of life. Go to Who Can Benefit and What Some Students Say

I very much enjoy meeting people and am always curious to find out what has brought them to the Alexander Technique.

It is the most wonderful experience to witness the improvement people make through the Alexander Technique. To see how the quality of their life can change immeasurably regardless of who they are and what their difficulties may be. We all possess the key to the unlocking of our own potential - it is up to us whether we will or not.

  •   'You should be warned - learning the Alexander Technique with Estella does mean that you will discover muscles you haven't used in a while - all the ones associated with laughing'.
